One would think with a name like 'Confederate Jasmine', this is actually a Southern native. But this much loved southern vine is actually a Chinese import and has been popular in Europe and the US alike. The Confederate Jasmine (Jasminoides) has dark green foliage and inconspicuous orange flowering-plants, with conspicuous fruit-plants or seeds. Leaves are retained year to year. The Confederate Jasmine (Jasminoides) has a long life span relative to most other plant species and a rapid growth rate. At maturity, the typical Confederate Jasmine (Jasminoides) will reach up to 2 feet high, with a maximum height at 20 years of 2 feet. Confederate jasmine is hardy in United States Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 8 through 10. The plants can survive temperatures as low as 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit, found in much of zone 8. With cold protection, the plants may be hardy in parts of zone 7, where the average low temperature may get as low as 0 degrees F. While zones 8 through 10 encompass the southern tier of states, many parts of states bordering the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans are well within the temperature requirements for growing confederate jasmine. For a hardier variety look at our 'Madison' Jasmine.
